OSCE trains police in Uzbekistan on operational and investigation legal procedures

TASHKENT, 4 June 2013 – An OSCE-organized training course for criminal police started in Tashkent today.

The three-day course, organized by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan jointly with the Police Academy under the Interior Ministry was developed at the request of the law enforcement agencies so as to learn about best international practices on operational and investigation procedures. The training is conducted by two experts from the United Kingdom and Germany and brings together 25 representatives from the Police Academy, the Interior Ministry  as well as police officers from Uzbekistan’s regions.

Participants will study the legal framework and planning and investigation practices, with a special focus on complying with national and international human rights standards.

“This course will help participants to have broader perspective on the recently adopted Law Enforcement Operations Act,” said Gyorgy Szabo, OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan. “It is crucial for police personnel to exercise judgment in different practical settings based on the values and ethics underlying at the heart of any democratic society”.

The training is organized as part of a larger co-operation project between the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan and the National Police Academy aimed at improving the staff training system for law-enforcement bodies.
