TASHKENT, 26 May 2009 - A workshop for civil society representatives on how to report on compliance with the UN Convention on Eliminating all forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), organized by the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan and the National Association of NGOs of Uzbekistan, started in Tashkent today.

The five-day workshop aims to raise awareness on CEDAW, the main international instrument advocating gender equality as central to achieving women's human rights. Participants also will discuss how to monitor the Convention's implementation, and how it can be used as a framework for collecting and presenting information.

The event is part of a series of training sessions held as part of an OSCE Project Co-ordinator project that aims to enhance the institutional capacities of the National Association of NGOs and to make association members' activities more effective.
