OSCE launches Central Asian Youth Network

TASHKENT, 30 April 2004 - More than 50 senior students and 15 of their supervisors from Central Asia will gather on 5 May in Uzbekistan to attend a research seminar marking the successful start of the newly-established Central Asian Youth Network.
The Network forms part of the OSCE's Education for Young People Programme in Central Asia and aims at contributing to international co-operation, conflict prevention, liberalization and democratization by promoting good relations and friendly cross-border contacts among students in the region.
Each member of the Network will, as part of a group, produce a research paper, participate in a seminar and a conference, and engage in online discussion groups on the Network website, which will be launched soon.
At the seminar, the students will discuss the topics of their research with other students and their supervisors. They will also improve their presentation, public speaking and academic writing skills, and gain more practice in using the Internet as a communication tool.
Guest speakers from the OSCE Secretariat in Vienna and the Warsaw-based OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights have been invited to attend the three-day seminar in Uzbekistan, which will take place in the Charvak Resort, Tashkent region. They will present to the students the OSCE's activities and its three-dimensional approach to security. The participants will also receive copies of relevant OSCE publications in order to give them more in-depth information about the OSCE principles and commitments.
